Facebook dan Google Fraud US$ 122 Juta
Esvaldas Rimasauskas, didakwa melakukan tindak kejahatan pencurian identitas, penipuan finansial, dan pencucian uang sepanjang 2013-2015. Pria asal Lithuania itu melakukan penipuan terhadap dua perusahaan teknologi raksasa asal Amerika Serikat (AS), Facebook dan Google.
Pria berusia 50 tahun tersebut melakukan penipuan dengan total kerugian mencapai US$ 122 juta. Masing-masing Facebook US$ 99 juta dan Google US$ 23 juta.
Esvaldas melancarkan aksinya dengan metode Business Email Compromise (BEC). Ia mengirimkan tagihan kepada kedua perusahaan menggunakan email beridentitas Quanta Computer, perusahaan manufaktur di Taiwan, lengkap dengan dokumen dan surat kontrak yang dipalsukan. 
Facebook dan Google percaya tagihan itu dan mengirimkan uang. Namun pada 2017, aksi itu ketahuan dan Esvaldas akhirnya dijatuhi hukuman.
Fraud dengan metode BEC ini disebut-sebut tak hanya dialami oleh Facebook dan Google. Berdasarkan data FBI, total kerugian yang dialami perusahaan di seluruh dunia melalui penipuan BEC mencapai US$ 12,5 miliar. Modus operandi yang dilakukan umumnya ialah membajak email dan mengirimnya seakan asli dari mitra bisnis perusahaan.
My Response :
This case concerns the type of misappropriation Asset fraud, i.e. Fraud is defined as the misuse or theft of company assets and assets or other parties related to the company. And my response in this case, this is a very detrimental to the company concerned, both disadvantaged in financial terms, and can worsen the good name of the company. And luckily in this case the perpetrators have been arrested, and better for the future, more emphasized in terms of communication, for example in this case even though there is evidence that the company's bill looks genuine, even though it is fake, it would be better to contact the company that provided the bill again, not distrust the company concerned, but just to make sure whether it is fake or genuine, if it is done, it will avoid the undesirable things and certainly does not harm some companies that are victims and does not personally benefit the perpetrators.
